Why the calendar matters this fall
There is a real reason to know your options for THC delivery right now rather than in December. The federal definition of hemp is changing, and the date moved recently.
What changed, and when
Section 781 of the fiscal year 2026 appropriations act, signed November 12, 2025, replaces the delta-9-only hemp standard with a total-THC standard of 0.3% on a dry weight basis — a figure that counts THCA — and caps finished hemp products at 0.4 mg of total THC per container. That change was originally set for November 12, 2026.
On September 2, 2026, the President signed H.R. 6500, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027. It pushes most of those hemp restrictions to December 11, 2026. Synthetic cannabinoids — the ones the statute describes as not capable of being naturally produced by a Cannabis sativa L. plant — stay on the original November 12, 2026 timeline.
